Paisley Music Roundup 18 by Tommy McGrory

on 3 February 2023 0

Welcome to Tommy McGrory’s Paisley Music Roundup 18, looking ahead at gigs in the town from Friday night.

Tonight, The Bungalow has a birthday party booked in. The birthday girl is Angie McGuire who is a regular at The Bungalow. I’m not saying what birthday it is, but the staff will not be employing the 25 rule. On stage is her very good friend Tom Urie who will be spinning some discs. It is a ticket only affair so if your name isn’t on the list…

The wonderful Bobby Deans Big Band will be pounding out some cool jazz, sensational swing, and some smooth tunes tomorrow afternoon. This gig is generally packed so if you want to get a seat, get in early when the doors open at 1pm.

Tomorrow night local singer song writer Stephen Henry and his family are having a Charity Night in aid of The Moira Fund. The Moira Fund makes grants to individuals referred through official organisations, the Police and Victim Support, and to those charities which care for families who have lost a loved one through murder or manslaughter.

Elaine C Smith is a patron, “I know that through the hard work of Moira’s family and this Fund that those going through the worst of times will find some respite and comfort.”

The Moira Fund is wholly dependent on unpaid volunteers and fund-raising. The running costs are very low, and any donations made is used, almost entirely, to help those distressed. Doors open at 7pm and if you are looking for tickets or you would like to make a donation, please contact Stephen on Facebook.

Next Thursday’s Introducing Night has a fantastic line up starting with Leisureland, Bicycle Trip, Bad Year and Josiah. These nights present the best of the emerging talent that is on the circuit. Pop down and enjoy what is current today and you might meet your new favourite band. Doors are 7pm and tickets are £5/3 student.

Last week I made a bit of a mess. I told everyone Lemon Soul were on at Rocknrollas. I looked at the diary and got the wrong week and missed out other information too. Sorry guys. So, on Sunday the Lemon Soul gang ARE at Rocknrolla’s. It’s pay on the door from 1pm. In support is Dj Gerry McGuire.

The Old Swan have Keeperlit in tonight starting at 7pm, then tomorrow afternoon Epic kick off at 4pm. On Sunday the Northern Soul Club starts at 4pm, Monday Clyde are back to play wide variety of Scottish tunes, rock favourites and pop classics.

Lee James will again be doing a double shift at The Old Swan next week starting on Tuesday at 3pm when he will be performing a Sing Classic Show and then on Thursday at 3pm he will ‘Taking You Through the Decades’.

Duncan McLellan will be playing on Wednesday from 4pm. The Old Swan have organised a fundraising Race Night on Sunday from 7pm called ‘A Night for Lauren’. If you can, pop in and support this worthy cause.

Kennedy’s welcome duo Rumours back for another Sunday afternoon from 3pm and The Anchor have Jenni and the Blockheads from 4.30pm. MrdB also known as ‘The Rawk Gods’ are at The Keg tonight from 9pm and well-known rock covers band Drty Luv will be playing from 9pm tomorrow night.

Make your hump day (Wednesday) enjoyable and head on into The Keg for 8:30 where host Johnny Barr will be kicking off the Open Mic. They tell me that Rock, Jazz, Blues, Obscure, comedy or yo-yo’ing it’s all welcome! (They’d love someone with killer yo-yo tricks!) Those looking to just enjoy the music are most certainly welcome.

Last week saw a bunch of new performers who were all amazing, so get in about it and don’t miss out! Guitars, amps and drums are there for you to use.

Other Open Mic sessions are Abbey Bar on Monday with Dunky Hunter at 8pm and Jason Flood is the host at Gantry on Tuesday from 9pm.

That’s the Paisley Music Roundup 18.

Keep Music Live.
